The "Ghostbusters 3" rumor mill continues: Yesterday, we posted video of Dan Aykroyd claiming that Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen were working on a script for another "Ghostbusters" movie which would presumably have nothing to do with the original cast.
Yet today, Variety reports that Sony/Columbia are being mum on details but that Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (TV's "The Office") have been hired to write a script that would reunite the original Ghostbusters - Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson - for one more movie. Eisenberg and Stupnitsky recently wrote the script for "Year One," a comedy produced by Judd Apatow and directed by Harold Ramis. Ramis and Aykroyd wrote the story and screenplay for the first two Ghostbusters films.
"Ghostbusters 3" was in development hell all throughout the '90s until it was deemed impossible make due to the stars' demands for a high percentage of the gross. Aykroyd has stated over the years that a script was written but never saw the light of day. He and Ramis used elements of the story for the upcoming "Ghostbusters" video game due out next month on the XBOX 360, PS3, PS2, and Nintendo Wii. Aykroyd has also hinted that his unused script could be used for a CGI-animated film.
