The Hollywood Reporter reports that "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe will star in his first movie outside the franchise, titled "December Boys," which begins production in Australia this year. Based on the novel of the same title by Michael Noonan, the story revolves around four young orphan boys in 1960s Australia. "Having all but given up hope of ever being adopted, the tight-knit friends are on a seaside holiday one summer when they find themselves competing for a place in the home and family they all long for." Rod Hardy ("The Practice") will direct the film, and Richard Becker will produce. The screenplay was adapted by Marc Rosenberg ("Serpent's Lair").
