The Hollywood Reporter reports that Luke Wilson will be joining the film version of "Hoot" for New Line Cinema. The project is based on the book of the same name by Carl Hiaasen. The Newbery Award-winning book tells the story of "a Montana boy who moves with his family to Florida, where he uncovers a plot to destroy a local population of endangered owls. He battles unusual creatures and eccentric adults in order to save the owls."
Wilson will portray David Delinko, a bumbling cop whose investigation is stymied by the boy (Logan Lerman) and his friend (Brie Larson). The movie, to be written and directed by Wil Shriner, will feature original music from Jimmy Buffett, who will serve as a producer.
