Hugh Jackman in "Carousel" remake?

Variety reports that Fox will be turning the musical "Carousel" into a new film, with Hugh Jackman attached to star. The studio is looking to remake the 1956 film starring Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones.

Jackman would play Billy Bigelow, a carnival barker who finds himself stuck in purgatory after a botched robbery. He's given one day to return and fix the problems he left behind through a teenager who has a lot of his rebellious traits.

The deal includes Jackman producing the feature as well.
