A new "Buffy" movie is in the works and it's going forward with or without series creator Joss Whedon.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on a new "Buffy" movie that will reboot the franchise.
A reboot would essentially mean that the new film will not follow any of the storylines or characters from the original film starring Kristy Swanson or the cult television series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Whedon has not been approached yet but the producers have not ruled it out.
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" told of a high school girl who fights off vampires to protect her community. The new "Buffy" film is being eyed as more dark in nature and the producers are hoping it has franchise potential.
