Steven Spielberg has picked his next film and it will be based on the Mary Chase play "Harvey," which will be co-produced between 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks. "Harvey" was previously turned into a feature film in 1950 starring Jimmy Stewart. Variety reports that the script will be written by Jonathan Tropper, bestselling novelist who will be writing his first screenplay.
The project will be produced by Spielberg and Don Gregory, with Elizabeth Gabler and Carla Hacken overseeing for Fox 2000, which acquired the rights in 2008. Production will begin in early 2010.
"Harvey" told of an eccentric man named Elwood P. Dowd and his friendship with an invisible rabbit, and how it affects his family and community.
